Family Reunion 11x14

Family reunion If walls could speak. They would tell you of all warm family moments and tragedies that go hand in hand. This place in particular belong too many over the years. It has become a meeting place for those who cannot let go In 2017, I had my first solo show at the Bottle Brush Gallery in Harmony. It was for their Halloween event, so my work focused on haunted houses. This is one of them, for information about this series check out The Lost Stories on my website.   While working on this series, I was listening to as many folk lore/ paranormal podcasts as possible for inspiration. Thats where I heard stories of the 'black eyed children' for the very first time. I found them horrifically disturbing ... So I decided to draw them. Well, not really. I did like the one story about how this person ignored these 2 kids knocking at his door one night at exactly midnight. The next night the kids came back but instead of 2, there were 3. After multiple nights of ignoring these kids, more and more started showing up. How strange is that? Imagine looking out your window, seeing a sea of children, standing in your front yard, at midnight. That idea alone just creeps me out. I decided to do the same thing for 'The Family Reunion". But instead of giving these figures the identity of children, I just gave them the suggestive forms of humans, allowing the viewer to decide what they are. Since they are more leaning towards ghosts, I created a story about how, this is a home of a killer, and these are all the spirits from unmarked graves in his back yard.   Not sure which is worse to be honest.. the kids or the ghosts?
