My work travels allowed me to visit much of Kansas for 20 years. Like all photographers, sometimes we find images and sometimes they find us. As I traveled west toward Florence one day scanning the horizon in front of me, I noticed the bell tower of Bichet School, District 34 peeking above the treeline to my north. I pulled off the highway and drove north on a dirt road less than a quarter mile to find this one room schoolhouse on private land. The roan colored grass, the bright blue sky and the shadows on front of the building all make this image pop.
