Ever since I was a kid I’ve been attracted to design and working with materials. I’ve been fortunate to have a rich education from a variety of places including Carnegie-Mellon for a pre-college full summer design program, Yale University for art and architecture, and UMass at Amherst for city planning and landscape architecture. I discovered the field of fine craft while running a glass studio and had my first immersive materials experience one summer where for two weeks I was so engaged in what I was doing that I had no sense of time passing. Since then I’ve spent many weeks at some of the finest craft schools in the US including Penland School of Crafts, Snow Farm, and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Every time I’m lucky enough to take a class I’m reminded that “doing the work” yields amazing results. I currently make a wide variety of commercial pieces that support less commercial, but important political work. Everything I make is carefully considered, constructed, and completed with the hope that it finds its way to people who appreciate the time and care that I invest. Local-Good comes from the same philosophy and I’m proud and excited to partner with them to use my skills to benefit and build a better community.

Custom inquiries are welcome; I’m happy to work with your taste and decor. I have a huge paper stash filled with colors and patterns, so anything you can do to help me reduce it is welcome! I require a 50% deposit on custom work, 20% is non-refundable. My design rate is $50./hour if you want a custom style.

I’m happy to combine purchases to reduce shipping fees or arrange for pick-up if you are local. I try to ship once a week, usually via USPS or UPS.

Returns must be made within 14 days of receipt. Please notify me via email (karenkmetals@gmail.com) so I can advise you; a restocking fee will be charged if necessary. All sales are final after 14 days.
