We are a husband and wife team (Dan and Laura), running our workshop and business from our home. Dan is our jeweler and has 20 years of experience in metalsmithing working for some of Pittsburgh’s finest jewelers. He has a degree in Fine Arts with a degree in Metalsmithing from Edinboro University. Laura works the behind-the-scenes of the business, running social media, interacting with customers and retailers, and booking our shows. She has degrees in English and French from Westminster College.

We named our business “Harp and Hound” because Laura plays the folk harp, and we have a beloved pet dog, Loki, who is our muse-dog. The title combines these two things that are important to us, and also has an Irish flair which represents a major theme in our work. If you follow us on social media, you will see photos of both our harp and our hound from time to time!

As a true family business, we share our home with our 4 year old son, who often supervises when his “Dada” is making jewelry. When you shop from us, you are supporting a small crafter and a family run business.

Our items are made using lost-wax casting (also known as investment casting), which is a traditional method of casting metals that dates back thousands of years. Each piece of jewelry is individually cast. We do not currently have a kiln at home, so our casts are produced from our prototypes by a small production partner. The raw casts are then completed individually by hand in our home shop. We welcome you to view our social media pages, where we often share photos and videos of the crafting process.

We do take custom orders and will work in any fine metal (silver, rose, yellow, or white gold, and platinum). We run a full service jewelry facility and can make almost anything that you can dream of! Contact us for questions and commissions.

In the unlikely case that something does not work for you, please contact us and we will attempt to make it right.
