Photographing the burning grasslands in the Flint Hills of Kansas is a rite of passage for many local photographers. Working with a friend who lived in the area, I went one spring day to docment the ritual of pasture burning. As I turned around, I spotted my friend and two neighbor boys walking to the west along this prairie highway to control the fire on the west side of her property.
